Oh the tears, the upset: JLS are no more but their odd pop trivia lives on

The first piece of JLS trivia lies in the band’s name. Originally called UFO, the band decided to call themselves JLS to stand for “Jack the Lad Swing”.

Jack the Land Swing is a combination of the phrase “Jack the lad” with the urban music genre New Jack Swing. The boys first auditioned on The X Factor as UFO, but were asked to change it as the name was already taken by another British rock band.

Unlike One Direction, who also rose to fame thanks to X Factor, JLS came to the show already established as a group and were not “manufactured” by Simon Cowell. They came second in the final to Alexandra Burke, but now have a clothing line with the singer called 2KX (which is offering good discounts at the moment).

Never ones to shy away from extending their brand across a variety of consumer goods, JLS produced a top-selling book, 3D film, two perfumes, a range of dolls, and – lest we forget – their own branded condoms (they weren’t named Britain’s hardest-working band two years in a row for nothing).

But the JLS trivia doesn’t stop there, the boys also have links to Holby City, Simon Webbe from Blue and The Queen.
