Party Of The Week: Pre-Grammy bash keeps guests up late
Comedian Russell Brand and his fiancée, the pop star Katy Perry, fooled around with Rihanna at Hollywood's pre-Grammy bash at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Rihanna was wearing a cocktail dress with a massive mint-green puff over one shoulder that wouldn't have looked out of place in Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. It also matched the tablecloth perfectly, which amused Brand and Perry, who recreated the look using their napkins, while sitting next to her.
Country-pop star Taylor Swift, who won Album of the Year the following night, chatted to Barbra Streisand. The Black Eyed Peas – Fergie (real name Stacy Ferguson), Taboo, apl.de.ap and will.i.am – performed "I Gotta Feeling", ahead of their three-Grammy-award win.
Joan Collins and Jane Fonda also attended the glitzy party, which is hosted by the industry bigwig Clive Davis.
Jay-Z arrived late without his wife, Beyoncé, who won six Grammy awards.
Jennifer Hudson performed a mini-tribute to Streisand with "The Way We Were" and "People", and Ke$ha performed "Tik Tok" from atop a table. Slash and Fergie did a rendition of "Sweet Child O' Mine". Mary J Blige sang "No More Drama" and "I Can See In Color", her song from the Precious soundtrack, before theatrically collapsing against the piano.
Many guests dashed off at midnight – no doubt wanting to get to bed early ahead of the main event – but before all the performances were over. Davis said: "It's less than three hours of music. If you can't take it, you're in the wrong business."
