The Playlist: Drake / Fred C Dobbs / Dead Girlfriends
The songs that are hot on our playlist this week
Hold On, We're Going Home
The Drake-featuring-Drake trick feels boring now, so it's good to see him move away from predictable half-sung, half-rapped tracks.
Fred C Dobbs
Far Away Days
The south Londoner (pictured) returns to the kind of dreamy garage-pop he made on debut EP 'The Olden Days'. This is brilliantly crafted, summer rock'n'roll.
The artist formally known as Elite Gymnastics was inspired to change her stage name by late radical feminist Andrea Dworkin. This is the first release since adopting her “aggressively feminine” new sound.
World Don't Shine
This Liverpool-via-Belfast brother-sister duo make blissed-out guitar pop that experiments with male/female vocal patterns. A brilliant video for this track was premiered last week.
The Houston-based rapper is slowly putting Texan hip hop on the map.
The Fresh & Onlys
Despite much cleaner production than on their early releases, there's no danger of the F&Os abandoning a 1960s garage rock sound.
