Roger Daltry and Pete Townshend took a dig at Kanye West during their Sunday night headline set at Glastonbury after the rapper declared himself to be “the biggest rock star on the planet”.

Keen to reassert their status, The Who told the audience: “We’re going to make a big f***ing rebellion; yeah, who’s the biggest rock star in the world?”, before Townshend gave an impressive guitar solo.

The Sixties band also rivalled Kanye in kicking up a fuss, repeatedly complaining about the sound and shouting to backstage “it’s f***ing crap” before Daltry pulled over a plastic screen and knocked over microphones so they could hear the drums better.

Kanye West is known for being rather too in love with himself

Earlier yesterday, Lionel Richie pulled in huge crowds with his upbeat show, which had the audience singing and dancing along to his hit songs.

The soul singer grinned in astonishment, telling the audience: “This is unbelievable. I'm intimidated because you know the words better than I do.”

Many in the crowd were wearing hand-made t-shirts and flags in his honour, erupting during his hits Dancing On The Ceiling, Hello and All Night Long.

He took to the stage just as the sun came out and told the audience: “It has been a long time coming but I finally made it to Glastonbury.”
