Mud, mud glorious mud. Or so the song goes. But there's nothing so very glorious about being covered in the stuff on the one weekend of the year when you have no access to clean clothes, a shower or even a decent toilet.

So if you're bemoaning the good time your friends are having (so far) in sunny Glastonbury cast your eye over these photographs of the years the Worth Farm gala was rather less than dry.

Mud wrestling anyone?

This year's festival officially kicks off tomorrow but more than 90 per cent of the 135,000 ticketholders are believed to already have set up camp in Somerset and be enjoying the vibe before the music starts. The weather has been dry so far but some rain is predicted tomorrow and the organisers have been preparing for cases of trench foot.
