Glastonbury 2014 weather: Lightning strikes as festival set for wash-out weekend

Glastonbury revellers are set for a wash-out after weather forecasters issued a yellow warning with heavy rain expected to pour over Worthy Farm on Saturday.

The first sight of lightning has been reported during Rudimental's set on the Pyramid Stage this afternoon.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the South East, which could see heavy rain showers accompanied by thunder and lighting on Saturday. Sunday and Monday morning are looking dry with sunny spells.

"A slack area of low pressure is expected to extend eastwards across southern UK on Friday and Saturday, bringing with it moist and deeply unstable air," the Met Office added."Daytime heating will assist the development of heavy showers and thunderstorms."

Glastonbury-goers were warned to expect a predictably British affair in the weather stakes but have at least been able to pitch their tents on dry ground and enjoyed two days of sunny weather that came to an end yesterday as rain began to pour over Somerset.

However, a return to the famous mud bath of 1997 seems unlikely but the prospect of rain comes after the wettest winter on record, with Somerset bearing the brunt of the flooding.

This year's festival will see Metallica, Kasabian and Arcade Fire headlining the world-famous musical extravaganza, with other major acts on the bill including The Black Keys, Massive Attack and Pixies. Kaiser Chiefs kicked off Glastonbury Festival 2014 with a short, sharp blast of anthemic rock earlier today.
