Most blogged artists: Avey Tare, Solomon Burke
Monday 11 October 2010
Animal Collective's Avey Tare climbs into first place as the day's most blogged artist, according to The Hype Machine on October 11. La Sera, aka musician Katy Goodman, moves into second place, while Atlanta rock outfit Deerhunter drops to third. Also, the late Solomon Burke joins the top ten.
Brooklyn-based Tare appeared in the blogs last Thursday after releasing the first single, "Lucky 1," from his debut full-length solo album, Down There, set to drop October 26. No stranger to side projects, Tare is following in the footsteps of his Animal Collective bandmate Panda Bear in releasing a solo LP. To generate more interest, Tare just dropped a new video for "Lucky 1." "This track is backyard bodaciousness," writes Weekly Tape Deck (weeklytapedeck.com). "One can see Avey Tare doesn't stray too far from the Animal Collective formula, and we all know it's a successful one."
Bloggers are also passing around some of the greatest hits of Grammy Award-winning US singer Solomon Burke, who died on Sunday, October 10, in Amsterdam at the age of 70. Burke, crowned "the King of Rock and Soul" during a career spanning five decades, found new audiences through the soundtracks for movies such as The Blues Brothers and Dirty Dancing. "For the uninitiated, Burke was one of the greatest blues and soul singers of all time," writes Troubled Souls Unite (troubledsoulsunite.wordpress.com). "He's one of the first musicians to bring his experience as a pastor into his music, and familiar because every soul and rock singer stole a bit of his style."
