Toronto electronic act Crystal Castles continues to be the most blogged act on The Hype Machine after making its self-titled album available digitally more than a month before its physical release. Los Angeles noise rock band Health and dance-punk act LCD Soundsystem are in second and third, while Gang Starr and Au Revoir Simone are new to the top ten on April 23.
Former US East Coast hip hop duo Gang Starr - MC Guru and DJ Premier - is in the blogs following the death of Guru at age 43. Gang Starr released six albums between 1989 and 2003, including the critically acclaimed 1998 album Moment of Truth, and Guru became a hip-hop legend for his work with Gang Starr and jazz collaborations. Bloggers are sharing various Gang Starr MP3s and paying tribute to the rapper and the duo.
Au Revoir Simone is an all-female electronic indie-pop band from Brooklyn. The three-piece group takes its name from a line spoken by Pee-Wee Herman in the Tim Burton-directed film Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. A remix by Brooklyn duo Punches of the band's track "Only You Can Make You Happy," from 2009 album Still Night, Still Light, is being shared around the blogosphere. Vacay Vitamins (www.vacayvitamins.com) reviews, "It has a funky-ass bassline, some serious horn action, and some synth strings for kicks. I have a feeling we'll be hearing more from these folks soon."
