French house DJ duo Daft Punk is the most blogged act on December 2, thanks to the upcoming release of their
Tron: Legacy soundtrack. According to The Hype Machine, Sweden's Robyn is in second place while Britain's Gorillaz takes third. Also in the day's top ten: PJ Harvey and Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros.
British singer-songwriter PJ Harvey just released the first taste of her upcoming eighth studio album, Let England Shake, set to release in February. The new track, "Written on the Forehead," was reportedly recorded in a 19th century English church alongside her long-time producers Flood and John Parish. "It's uplifting, inventive and, in short, a maturing of everything she's ever been," reviews Neu Magazine (www.neumagazine.co.uk).
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros is a 10-member Los Angeles band led by singer Alex Ebert (Edward Sharpe is a fictional messianic character created by Ebert) with a sound described as alternative country, neo-psychedelia, and indie folk. The band has been touring in support of its 2009 debut full-length album Up from Below, and the musicians just released five songs from the album as well as an unreleased track titled "Fire & Water" via iTunes Session. "'Fire & Water,' a smoky Southern country anthem, features the sultry voice of Jade Castrinos, with Ebert providing mainly backup vocals," describes blogger Treeswingers (treeswingers.com).
