Grinderman, the rock band of Nick Cave and fellow members of the Bad Seeds, continues to be the most blogged act on The Hype Machine on August 2 following the release of its track "Heathen Child." Canadian indie band Arcade Fire and Los Angeles duo Best Coast are in second and third, while Black Mountain and Tiga are also among the top ten.
Black Mountain is a Canadian psychedelic rock band that has released two full-length albums, opened for Coldplay on tour in 2005, and has a song ("Stay Free") on the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack. The group has a third album due out on September 14, titled Wilderness Heart, and has just released the track "The Hair Song" for download. The Mad Mackerel (madmackerel.wordpress.com) calls the song "heavy rock" and writes, "Even the track title calls up an era of stoned Hells Angels with straggly hair having fun on their Harleys while terrifying your mum. Marvellous."
Tiga is a Montreal-based DJ and producer who is widely known for his remixes of The Scissor Sisters, Tomas Andersson, and more. The artist's track "What You Need" has just been remixed by Midnight Conspiracy as part of an annual remix competition organized by the Lollapalooza Festival, and the remix is now making its way around the blogosphere. The competition continues with a live event during which four finalists compete for the chance to perform at Lollapalooza.
