La Sera, the side project of Vivian Girls' Katy Goodman, remains in the top spot as the music blogosphere's hottest act. According to The Hype Machine on January 18, other top artists include US indie rock band Smith Westerns and Brighton band British Sea Power in second and third.
Young Wrists and On Volcano are two bands debuting in the day's top ten after being included in the Music Alliance Pact's (MAP) monthly listing of up-and-coming music acts from around the world. Bloggers are swapping a track called "I Want You to Disappear" from Italian band Young Wrist, hailing from the coastal town of Pesaro. "There is definitely a breezy, summer shade in their jangly, noisy pop," writes blogger Polaroid (polaroid.blogspot.com).
Finnish underground act On Volcano also joins the ranks after music blogger Glue (www.glue.fi) shared the track "Acceleration of Heartbeart" via MAP. "They play obscure post-rock songs with long instrumental movements and intense dynamics and atmospherics," describes Glue. The band has offered their latest EP, New Blood, for free on their website.
