Most blogged artists: Monarchy, Cold Cave, Tokyo Police Club
Wednesday 09 June 2010
London-based duo Monarchy holds its spot as The Hype Machine's most blogged act of the moment on June 9, having recently premiered a track called "Love Get Out of My Way," according to The Hype Machine. British electronic act Four Tet and New York City band The Drums are in second and third, while Cold Cave and Tokyo Police Club are new to the top ten.
Cold Cave is an experimental synthpop group that was founded in 2005 by hardcore musician Wesley Eisold. The band released its first full-length album, Love Comes Close, in 2009 on Matador Records, and recently released a new single - "Life Magazine" - on that label. The track is now being passed around the blogosphere, as are remixes by Delorean, Pantha du Prince, Prurient, and Optimo. Nialler 9 (www.nialler9.com) says that Delorean gives the track "a sun-shining Basque country twist," while No Conclusion (www.no-conclusion.com) calls the Prurient remix "more noise, less pop."
Canadian indie rock band Tokyo Police Club formed in 2005 and has earned a name for itself through performances at high-profile festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury, and Roskilde. The band released its first album, Elephant Shell, in 2008; a follow-up, Champ, was released on June 8 and is now being reviewed by music bloggers. Pigeons and Planes (pigeonsandplanes.com) shares an impression of the album: "catchy melodies and youthful indie rock that will grab you right away and hold on tightly."
