Tuesday 24 August 2010
Brooklyn indie group Small Black remains the most popular act in the music blogosphere on August 24, according to The Hype Machine. Solo projects Glasser and Wild Nothing follow in second and third, while new acts in the day's top ten include Cee-Lo Green and The Tings Tings.
Cee-Lo Green is an American hip-hop/funk/soul singer, songwriter and producer who performs as one half of Gnarls Barkley. He has released two solo albums and has a third, The Lady Killer, due out in October. The lead single from that album, "Fuck You," which is co-written and produced by Bruno Mars, was released August 20 on YouTube and is now becoming a viral hit. The Tape (thetapeisnotsticky.com) writes of the original track, "Combining old-school soul licks with rap-scale vulgarity, Cee-Lo croons with intensity, sweetness and relevance."
The Ting Tings are a Grammy-nominated British indie-pop duo whose UK chart-topping debut album included the widely popular single "Shut Up and Let Me Go." The musicians are readying the release of a follow-up album and recently posted one of its tracks, "Hands," on their Facebook page. Pigeons and Planes (pigeonsandplanes.com) reviews, "They've kept the simplistic, repetitive formula, dropped the guitars and any hints of real instruments and hired Calvin Harris to take over on the production for some straight up electro pop."
