Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith have been announced as the first performers at next year’s Brit Awards.

“Thinking Out Loud” singer Sheeran was recently named the act the public would most like to see perform live at the annual music event.

He has had an extremely successful 2014, scoring the biggest-selling album of the year with X, becoming Spotify’s most-streamed artist and securing gig dates at Wembley Stadium for June 2015.

Swift, 25, saw her fifth album 1989 debut at number one in nearly 100 countries worldwide earlier this year. The “Shake It Off” singer is the only artist in history to have three albums sell a million or more copies in the first week of sale state-side.

Brits Critics’ Choice 2014 winner Smith has also enjoyed huge success with his debut album In The Lonely Hour, plus a string of hit singles including “Stay With Me” and “Like I Can”.

Tracey Emin has designed this year's Brittania statuette while Ant and Dec are confirmed to return as hosts.
