The Killers, The Script and David Guetta also among headliners

Scotland's largest music festival gets under way today, bringing some of the music world's biggest acts to a daily crowd of 85,000 people.

Organisers of T in the Park, a three-day event, at Balado airfield in Kinross, are this year marking the festival's 20th year.

Folk-rockers Mumford & Sons are headlining the festival tonight, while Rihanna and The Killers top the bill on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Other acts taking to the various stages over the long weekend include The Script, Stereophonics, Snoop Dogg, David Guetta, Beady Eye and Emeli Sande.

Yesterday, a record 35,000 campers raced to grab the best spots at the campsite, after the gates opened at lunchtime, as they prepared for the three-day music extravaganza.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said at the time: “Welcoming the first campers through the gates is my favourite moment of the festival every year. There was a phenomenal atmosphere, and a great sense of excitement amongst the campers.

“It's been a glorious start to our 20th year festivities. We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, and we can't wait to celebrate the 20th year of T in the Park with the fans, who truly are the greatest audience in the world.”

Organisers expect 85,000 people to attend the festival on each of the three days.

This year's festival bill has a variety of music including R&B, folk, techno, rock and punk.

Other acts set to entertain revellers are Frank Ocean, alt-J, Foals, The Lumineers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jake Bugg and Paloma Faith.

German electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk are making their at T in the Park debut this weekend with a performance expected to include 3D visuals, animation and projections.

And alternative rock band My Bloody Valentine are also making their first appearance at T in the Park.

Earlier this month, event organisers revealed that the festival has sold more than 2.5 million tickets in the past two decades.

George Kyle, head of sponsorship at Tennent's Lager, said: “T in the Park is the best weekend of the year for us, and we're incredibly proud to have been the T in T in the Park since the very beginning. Here's to 20 great years.”
