The muddy fields laid bare for 2016’s various music festivals have barely recovered from punters dancing to their favourite tunes and already next year’s headliners are being announced.

Notably, Glastonbury revealed Radiohead would be heading the Pyramid stage in 2017, soon followed by NOS announcing the Foo Fighters as their prime headliners.

Now, the Isle of Wight Festival has revealed who will be following in the footsteps of The Who, Queen + Adam Lambert, and Faithless: Arcade Fire.

The Canadian rockers will make their one and only UK festival appearance the Saturday night, with festival’s other acts yet to be confirmed.

Speaking about the announcement, Festival promoter John Giddings said: “I’m so happy to have secured Arcade Fire as our first headliner. David Bowie recommended them and I’ve been a fan ever since. Last year was an incredible year and I’m ready for us to come back even better in 2017.”

Arcade Fire’s last album, Reflektor, reached number one on the UK charts: the band previously hinted at a release date for a follow-up in a Reddit AMA.
