While most of the Twittersphere cannot get enough of Tom Odell’s cover of John Lennon’s song “Real Love”, some fans are less than impressed.
The singer's cover of John Lennon’s 1979 song debuted this morning after John Lewis released its annual Christmas advert on YouTube.
The reaction to Odell’s cover has been predominately positive, with many fans tweeting that John Lewis have “nailed it again” with their advert.
But some are less impressed that the 23-year-old artist from Chichester has been chosen to cover the music legend’s song.
Ughhhh Tom Odell covering John Lennon for the John Lewis Christmas ad- the mere concept fills me with terror— Callum O'Leary (@CallumOLeary) November 6, 2014
Covers should only be done by an artist of the same stature that they're covering. Tom Odell should be covering someone pish, no John Lennon— Hayton (@njh172) November 6, 2014
John Lennon must be turning in his grave at the Tom Odell cover of his song 'real Love' in the John Lewis Xmas ad... unless he was cremated?— Mark (@markhyson) November 6, 2014

The new John Lewis advert is quite sweet. But Tom Odell butchering Lennon/The Beatles is a disgrace.— Mark Hitchcock (@markhitchy) November 6, 2014
Well done John Lewis and Tom Odell, with your shocking Lennon cover you may have ruined Christmas— Anthony Riella (@lennon80) November 6, 2014

Featuring the strapline 'Give someone the Christmas they’ve been dreaming of', Monty and Mabel have been created using complex CGI technology to look and behave exactly like real life Adélie penguins.
The John Lewis advert has become well-known for featuring covers of well-known tracks, from Lily Allen’s version of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know” to Ellie Goulding’s cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” in 2010.
Allen’s “Somewhere Only We Know” went on to top the UK singles chart last Christmas.
This year’s John Lewis advert, featuring Monty the penguin playing with his friend Sam, will air on TV in an advert break during Gogglebox this Friday.Reuse content
