Ke$ha made US digital sales history when her debut single "TiK ToK," off the singer's upcoming album
Animal, was downloaded 610,000 times in the week ending December 27. This was the highest number of digital singles sold by a female artist in one week, accroding to Nielsen SoundScan, which began tracking the data in 2003.

Christmas week traditionally sees a high volume of downloads, as new MP3 players and download cards are unwrapped in record numbers. Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" takes the spot for best-selling download by a female artist from Lady Gaga's "Just Dance," which sold 419,000 digital tracks exactly one year earlier.

In addition to the highest download for a female artist, "TiK ToK" is the second best-selling one-week digital track overall, following Flo Rida's "Right Round," which sold 636,000 tracks on the chart of February 28, 2009. Ke$ha also happened to provide non-credited vocals on "Right Round," marking a breakthrough performance for the singer.

Ke$ha's Animal is due out January 5; pre-orders have already placed the album in the top five on the US iTunes Albums chart.

Top five single-week downloads, with number of downloads and chart date:

Flo Rida, "Right Round" - 636,000 - February 28, 2009
Ke$ha "TiK ToK" - 610,000 - January 9, 2010
Flo Rida, "Low" - 467,000 - January 12, 2008
The Black Eyed Peas, "Boom Boom Pow" - 465,000 - April 18, 2009
Flo Rida "Right Round" - 460,000 - March 7, 2009
