Metal is often pushed to the side in music discussion, seen as a sort of weird cousin that is great on its own but doesn’t really relate to other genres, but Lady Gaga disagrees.

Though she broke through with dance anthems, the influence of classic rock and metal is clear in her later work and fashion sense, and she discussed it - and specifically her favourite band Iron Maiden - in a new interview with CR Fashion Book.

“They're one of the greatest rock bands in history, in my opinion," she said. "Some people really don't know the importance of metal and the scope of it. Those guys were filling stadiums, and they still are.

“And it's because of the culture of the music, the poetry that's so powerful, that whenever the fans come together they unite in the essence of what Iron Maiden is all about. I always used to say to people, when they would say, 'Oh, she's the next Madonna.' No, I'm the next Iron Maiden.”

In other metal news, a Phoenix-based band are enjoying overnight fame entirely because they themed their band around Ned Flanders.

Their following grew 3000% in less than a week, and they now have new material and shows on the way to capitalise on their new found fandom.
