Mariah Carey forced to 'rough it' for New Year's Eve performance due to lack of hot tea

Pop star was forced to be 'like everyone else' and suffer without a hot beverage

Bizarre moment Mariah Carey requests 'hot tea' during New Year's Eve performance

While her 2017 New Year's Eve performance was much better than the lip-syncing disaster of 2016, Mariah Carey's NYE "redemption" show that saw her ring in 2018 was not without incident.

The pop star managed to create the first meme of 2018 after pausing between songs to question the lack of hot tea at her show. Not shade or receipts - literal tea for drinking purposes.

While the "All I Want For Christmas" singer sounded far better than she did at last year's event, she appeared to have one of her notorious "diva moments" when the drink she wanted was unavailable.

"There told me there would be tea," she said in confusion after "Vision of Love". "Oh, it's a disaster. OK, well, we'll just have to rough it. I'm going to be like everybody else, with no hot tea."

Yes, Carey was forced to join the legions of commoners in attendance at her gig and suffer through the show without a hot beverage.

Later, in the shadiest, most glamorous New Year's photo to ring in 2018, Carey later posted a picture of herself sipping a cup of hot tea from her dressing room.

Even better, the giant rock seen glittering on her middle finger is, according to CNN, her engagement ring from ex-fiance James Packer, which she called an "inconvenience fee" after she sued him for $50m after their breakup.

It's likely the incident was a "wink wink" reference to last year's drama. In 2016 Carey received criticism over the controversial performance on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

She received major technical difficulties throughout, with a representative telling Billboard that production "set her up to fail"

Dick Clark Productions later hit back and said the accusation it would "ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd".

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Carey's manager Stella Bulochnikov then attempted to clear up the confusion and said Carey's concerns about the sound being "choppy" were dismissed by the production team.

During the show, Carey could apparently only hear the "chaos" of Times Square and no music due to a faulty set of ear pieces.

Recently we learned just how much Carey reportedly earns each year from her hit Christmas song "All I Want For Christmas Is You".
