Remember Paul McCartney? Was once to be in a pretty big band called The Beatles? Also in Wings? Headlined Glastonbury as a solo artist? Wrote a song with Kanye West? Ah, now you remember.

Well, that same guy, whose musical legacy will continue for decades into the future, has spent some time recently writing music to go along with emoji. Romantic emoji. For Valentine's day.

Yes, the 73-year-old rocker really did team up with Skype to write little jingles to go along with their specially made animated emoji for Valentines day. You can watch him composing the emoji music below.

McCartney spoke about the sessions on his website, saying: “It turned out to be a great laugh at the same time as challenging because you suddenly realise you’ve got to compress a musical interpretation of an expression into less than five seconds.

“It was like doing a huge crossword puzzle and coming up with all these solutions. And at the same time it was musical so it was great practise for me in the studio.”

Turns out writing five-second emoji music really is an art-form of its own so next time you send your valentine a romantic emoji over Skype, just remember; Paul McCartney got paid to write that.
