Prince Charles stands out in the Glastonbury crowds

If his mother looked like she belonged at Wimbledon in her turquoise hat, Prince Charles's attire seemed about as congruous as a brutalist building in Chelsea when he rocked up at Glastonbury in a double-breasted suit.

Making a cameo on the Pyramid Stage, the awkward royal could no sooner pull off the festival look as he could his dress, despite the tentative concession of an unbuttoned jacket.

Appearing briefly as president of Water Aid, one of Glastonbury's charities, the Prince took a tour of Worthy Farm with its owner, Michael Eavis, and later had a go on the Water Aid's "welly shy", which involved throwing a tennis ball at a gumboot.

As word spread of the visit, a crowd gathered, chanting "Charlie" and calling for him to "give us a wave". Wave he did and, when asked if he was enjoying his visit, the Prince replied: "How could I not?"
