Psy tries and fails to recreate 'Gangnam Style' with the completely stupid 'Daddy'

'I'll be your curry, you'll be my rice' and we'll dance like something from your nightmares

Psy as himself, his father and his son in yet another crazy video
Psy as himself, his father and his son in yet another crazy video (Psy)

Psy, the South Korean who unleashed “Gangnam Style” upon the world, has returned with a ridiculous new song in a bid to recreate some of the old viral glory he enjoyed in 2012.

Predictably, “Daddy” is absolutely dreadful, complete with terrible dancing (please, don’t imitate it on your Saturday night out) and bizarre lyrics about owing your body to your dad. At one point, he actually sings: “I’ll be your curry, you’ll be my rice.”

Over 12 million people have checked out the video since it dropped on YouTube on 30 November, possibly in an attempt to remind themselves that there is always be someone that bit weirder than you.

Psy is seen playing himself, his ageing father and his child, which is creepy enough in itself, not to mention the opening scene with his face superimposed onto a baby.

That gold grill is equally terrifying and there is yet another toilet shot, but the glitzy wheelchair is pretty awesome.

“Daddy” clearly draws from “I Got It From My Mama” by will.i.am, thankfully minus the bikini-clad ladies .

Psy recently admitted that he struggled to repeat the success of “Gangnam Style” (still top of YouTube with nearly 2.5 billion plays) when recording his new album.

“There were many thoughts going around in my head, including thoughts like, ‘If I write this, it would be not as good,’ and ‘If I write like this, the international audience will not understand,” he said. “So it took me a very long time to organise all those thoughts into one.”

Should ‘a friend’ be a fan of Psy, then Chiljip PSY-Da came out on Monday, just in time for Christmas.
