The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrated its 25th birthday last night in the only way it knew how. By rocking out. Some of the biggest names in rock music including Sting and Bruce Springsteen graced the stage at Madison Square Gardens as part of the five hour concert. A further celebration is set to shake the prestigious venue tonight as the likes of Aretha Franklin and U2 provide birthday surprises.

The Hall of Fame has welcomed over 150 artists since 1986 and continues to be regarded as one of the greatest honours for musicians. It’s not easy to get in though. Performers must have ‘influence and significance to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll’ and only become eligible 25 years after their first record.

Last night's concert certainly did The Hall of Fame proud. One of the biggest cheers erupted for Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon’s performance of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and the evening came to close with Bruce Springsteen’s rendition of Jackie Wilson’s '(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher' ensuring that that the audience were left with a night to remember. Last night was certainly a tough act to follow, though if the performances were anything to go by, the celebration tonight promises to be one hell of a party.
