School turns down $10,000 grant because it meant watching Macklemore

The duo were to come and give a talk to students

Aliso Niguel High School were delighted when they won an iHeartRadio competition promising $10,000 to put toward bolstering music programs for whichever school could gather the most shares - that was until they realised it also meant you had to receive a talk from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

You might think that the school are rap purists, and not willing to welcome the mainstream duo, perhaps inviting Kendrick instead, but sadly staff said no for puritanical reasons.

School officials were reportedly concerned by Macklemore’s pro-gay rights and anti-white privilege message, and didn’t want them to share it with their students.

The students of Aliso Niguel revolted however, banding together on Reddit and calling for the school administrators to just accept the $10,000 and let the duo give their speech.

The school eventually capitulated, accepting the grant and the visit, so long as students got a permission slip from their parents.
