Shania Twain up against Wolf Alice for UK No.1 album

Country pop and alternative rock are vying for the top spot

Country-pop star Shania Twain is vying with Wolf Alice for the No.1 spot on this week's UK album chart.

Twain's album Now is right behind Wolf Alice's second album Visions of A Life, with the London four-piece barely 1,000 combined sales ahead, an Official Charts update reports.

Wolf Alice frontwoman Ellie Rowsell said she was inspired to write a love song - the band's latest single "Don't Delete The Kisses" - because "I was feeling in love... I find it hard sometimes to think with my feelings rather than my head, which is not good when it comes to love."

Now is Twain's fifth album - her first in 15 years - and the first one she wrote entirely by herself.

She told The Independent in an interview: “The timing for this album for me was very important – I don’t want to have to dodge around questions, avoid things. It’s so much easier to be open. It’s so empowering.

"It’s scary to take the risk, and to take on that challenge, but the reward is so great, and it was necessary for me anyway. Even if it hadn’t worked, I had to do it.”

Other new entries in contention for the No.1 spot this week are David Gilmour, with his album Live At Pompeii, the new Halloween-themed Michael Jackson album Scream, and Demi Lovato's sixth album Tell Me You Love Me.
