Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke endorse 'perfect' Spongebob meme that explains every Radiohead album

Including a suitably melancholic violin concerto from Mr. Krabs

It’s difficult to summarize the musical complexity of Radiohead’s discography. With a career spanning almost three decades and nine wildly different studio albums, the iconic band live by their own rules.

Except, it seems, when a Reddit user captures everything in one, with a Spongebob Squarepants themed-meme video describing each Radiohead album with a perfect moment from the Nickelodeon show. The video has nearly 45,000 YouTube views, and has now been endorsed by lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood himself.

Greenwood expressed his admiration for the video, calling it ‘perfect in so many ways’ on Twitter, while frontman Thom Yorke also endorsed the meme with a retweet this morning. It’s clear to see why, as the video draws on every shade of Radiohead’s eclectic emotion from the depth of Spongebob’s own library.

The comparison begins with the acoustic bittersweet optimism of Pablo Honey, encapsulated in ‘The Campfire Song Song’. The obsession and depression of a monotonous worker’s life are issues shared by Radiohead album OK Computer, and the brief genius in the Spongebob episode ‘Doing Time’.

The chrome starkness of Kid A meets its match with the frozen future in SB-129, where Squidward accidentally freezes himself for 2,000 years. The video aptly ends by describing the strings-laden melancholy of A Moon Shaped Pool with a cripplingly sad mini violin concerto from Mr Krabs.
