Summertime Ball 2013: The Wanted's Nathan Sykes recovers from throat surgery to make appearance alongside Justin Timberlake, Robbie Williams, Psy and Taylor Swift

The Wanted singer Nathan Sykes made his first appearance on stage today after recovering from throat surgery to save his voice.

The star joined his bandmates at London's Wembley Stadium to open the Capital FM Summertime Ball.

The 20-year-old went under the surgeon's knife in Los Angeles in April.

Speaking after coming off stage, Sykes joked that he would miss watching daytime television and playing computer games.

"I'm going to miss my days of Jeremy Kyle, This Morning and the Playstation, but it is great to be back," he said.

Bandmate Max George added: "It feels pretty awesome. We've missed him. We've been slogging it out for over two months now as a four. We have to do a lot less now he's back because he's quite heavy with the vocals which is cool for the rest of us."

Sykes is understood to have suffered a haemorrhaging vocal cord, a condition which almost wrecked the voice of global star Adele at the tail end of 2011, but her surgery in the US proved a success.

Although his performance went without a hitch, Sykes appeared not to be fully up to date with The Wanted's schedule. When George mentioned that their next tour was coming up soon, he asked: "Is it?"

Sykes still has to finish his vocals for the band's next album, and George claimed "he's got a rough ride".

When asked if he had been thinking about his future schedule, Sykes replied: "A tiny bit. Obviously I've just spent time getting back to where I was before. But yes, I should probably work hard and get up to date."

One of the highlights of the event was when South Korean rapper Psy was joined by the 80,000-sell out crowd in dancing to his single "Gangnam Style".

He admitted that he would always be expected to perform the humorous number one track throughout his career.

"It's my lifetime biggest hit ever and I think it's going to be for ever. Until the day I retire I've got to do that horsey thing," he explained.

"But I've got to move on so I'm working on the new album right now so I've got to have a lot of songs several years later from now. But still at that time Gangnam Style is going to be the strongest song I think."

Psy, whose full name is Park Jae-sang, spoke of his delight at performing at Wembley Stadium

"This is a landmark place not just for the UK but worldwide," he said. "All the artists who are performing, it's like a dream to make a performance at the stadium, especially on this big occasion."

But he added that wearing just a waist coat and trousers was a mistake on the chilly evening.

"How come it's so cold in here in summer? They are saying it's the Summertime Ball, so I dressed like summer but it's really cold. It seems I'm the only one," he added.

Robbie Williams was the headline act, with Taylor Swift, Will.i.am, Jessie J, The Saturdays, Labrinth and Olly Murs also performing. US star Justin Timberlake hosted the event.

Murs, 29, said he was considering his plans for the end of the year and may release a duet as a single.

He added: "I think I've really developed more as a writer and as a performer. I'm trying to be more experimental with everything."

Meanwhile The Saturdays declared their love for summer just before stepping onto the stage wearing revealing outfits.

Vanessa White said "literally no-one wears any clothes" and Una Healy added: "Tops come off."

Timberlake wowed the crowd with an acoustic medley of classic tunes and some of his own most popular tracks. He sang "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" - made popular by Marvin Gaye - and the Elvis Presley hit "Heartbreak Hotel", as well as "Cry Me A River" and "What Goes Around" from his own back catalogue.

Swift, wearing a white top, black shorts and a black hat, was surrounded by dancers in colourful outfits as she opened her set with the single 22.

She invited surprise guest Ed Sheeran to join her on the stage, describing him as "one of my absolute best friends in the world" before they performed their duet "Everything Has Changed".

Afterwards Swift told the crowd "for my sake and yours never get back with your horrible ex" as an introduction to "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", which was her finale.

The night was capped off with an energetic performance by Robbie Williams.

He strutted onto the stage wearing a bright red blazer and black trousers, before launching into his 1998 track "Let Me Entertain You".

Williams, who was accompanied by musicians playing brass instruments, also performed Rock DJ and his latest single "Be A Boy" as he brought the curtain down on the spectacular show.
