On November 17, SXSW.com announced the first round of acts chosen to perform at the 2010 South by Southwest Festival in March. Thousands of bands applied to play at the music event, which annually attracts more than 12,000 attendees to Austin, Texas from around the world.

SXSW Music Festival showcases nearly 2,000 musical acts each year. Chosen by SXSW judges, bands need not be well-known or have a big fan base, but all stand a chance of gaining international notice as a result of their SXSW shows.

The following bands are confirmed for the SXSW 2010 lineup:

Giulia y los Tellarini (Barcelona, Spain)
The Hong Kong Blood Opera (Hermosillo, Mexico)
Archie Bronson Outfit (London, England)
The Temper Trap (Melbourne, Australia)
Japandroids (Vancouver, Canada)
Chew Lips (London, England)

SXSW will continue to announce more confirmed performers through January 29. Updates, as they come, will be posted at SXSW.com.

The annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference & Festival gathers members of the music, film, and interactive media industry in Austin, Texas, for a weeklong convergence of ideas and talent. SXSW 2010, scheduled for March 12-21, will include a five-day-long interactive event, nine days of film, and five days of music.

The music event attracts nearly 12,000 attendees; the film and interactive components together attract approximately 17,000 registrants annually.
Through January 15, badges range from $475 to $675 for single festivals (music, film, or interactive). Gold badges, priced at $675, allow entry into both the film and interactive festivals, while a platinum badge, permitting entry to all three events, is available for $1050. After January, costs will rise by $25 to $75 per badge.
