The annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference & Festival gathers members of the music, film, and interactive media industry in Austin, Texas, for a weeklong convergence of ideas and talent. A reduced registration fee for the 2010 event - scheduled for March 12-21 - is being offered through November 13.

SXSW 2010 will include a five-day-long interactive event, nine days of film, and five days of music. Among featured speakers will be Motown legend Smokey Robinson and Academy Award-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla; an ever-growing list of panelists, speakers, performers, and exhibitors can be viewed at SXSW.com

The first SXSW was held in 1987 in Austin, Texas. International interest in the event began shortly thereafter, as US bands recognized at the festival found success in Europe and international bands performing at SXSW garnered interest at the event. SXSW now has offices in Ireland, Germany, Australia, and Japan, and confirmed trade stands for 2010 include Berlin, Catalonia, the City of the Hague, Hamburg, Ireland, Spain, and the UK.

The music event has grown from 700 registrants in 1987 to nearly 12,000 registrants today. In 1994, SXSW added film and interactive components, which now attract approximately 17,000 registrants.

Through November 13, badges range from $350 to $650 for single festivals (music, film, or interactive). Gold badges, priced at $650, allow entry into both the film and interactive festivals, while a platinum badge, permitting entry to all three events, is available for $995. After the November 13, costs will rise by $25 to $55 per badge.

Discounted badges can be ordered through November 13 at SXSW.com.
