British group The Who has confirmed that it will headline the Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show, scheduled to take place February 7 in Florida. The show will air on CBS Sports in the US and be broadcast to more than 230 countries and territories, according to The Who's website.

The Super Bowl has long been one of the most-watched TV programs of the year in the US, where more than 100 million viewers are estimated to tune in annually. Recent halftime acts have included Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and U2.

The Who's Super Bowl performance will follow the December 21 US release of the band's Greatest Hits album (Geffen Records), the first to span the group's entire recording career to date. The album will include 19 songs plus an essay by music critic Dave Marsh.

The Who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, earning 27 top-40 singles in the US and UK. In 2007 singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend, The Who's two remaining original members, released the studio album Endless Wire, which made top ten charts in the UK and US.
