Zack de la Rocha’s Rage Against the Machine fellow bandmates may be busy touring the US as Prophets of Rage with Chuck D and B-Real, but that doesn’t mean De La Rocha hasn’t been busy.

According to reports, the frontman is preparing to release a solo record, dropping the first single “Digging for Windows” online today.

The track marks the second time De La Rocha has worked with the Run the Jewels’ producer El-P, having previously appeared on Run the Jewels 2 track “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck).”

El-P revealed that the solo record will reach record stores next year, adding “Digging for Windows” was “made this year” and “there is more where that came from.”

De La Rocha’s last proper record was with Rage Against the Machine back in 2000 with Renegades, yet a solo album has been rumoured for over a decade.

Notably, after his collaboration with DJ Shadow in 2003, a solo record was promised but never materialised, Trent Reznor saying in 2011 that he collaborated with the TARM frontman but the material would never likely see the light of day.

Meanwhile, RATM last performed together in 2011, having scored a UK Christmas Number One in 2009. Last year, one member of the band apologised for inspiring Limp Biscuit, saying: “I do apologise for Limp Bizkit. I really do. I feel really bad that we inspired such bullsh*t.”
