Album: Harry Hill, Funny Times (Island)
Sunday 28 November 2010
If you've seen the mirthless chav-baiting video for "I Wanna Baby" which, seven years since Vicky Pollard, fails on every conceivable level, you've already got Funny Times' number.
Rinky-dink ditties, assisted by assorted national treasures (John Craven, Bruce Forsyth), Hill homes in on hackneyed targets (SuBo, SJP) and topics (upspeak, Pat Butcher's earrings). Martin Fry croons "This Guy's in Love With You" heroically straight, till Hill interrupts with a "bad" trombone solo, a half-arsed rehash of the old Les Dawson gag.
