You probably had to be there to feel the full effect, but Courtney Pine's reconvening of jazz big band the Warriors for last October's Barbican Abolition concert offers plenty of incidental delights.

There's Alex Wilson's kora-inspired piano; trombonist Harry Brown's joyful skank on "Blak Flag", and Omar Puente's Afro-Cuban violin feature for his own "Apunta un Lapiz", alongside much collective parping. Pine's sleeve-notes offer a revealing commentary on the extent to which the slavery experience continues to colour jazz, and while he writes the majority of the tunes, he by no means overpowers the ensemble's strengths.
