The Libertines were one of the Great British Bands. But with their third-rate spawn littering the current scene, it's more difficult to judge their worth with hindsight. What Pete Doherty and Carl Barât did was weld together previous Great British Bands (Jam, Clash) and graft onto it their own poet and romantic vision of "Albion". This compilation only includes three songs from their half-baked second album, which tells its own story. As great British bands so often do, The Libertines wrote their own epitaph. Where did all that talent go? "You pissed it all up the wall... you two bob c***".
