Album: Martha Wainwright, Come Home to Mama (V-2 Coop)
If CHTM includes references to motherhood beyond its title, that's hardly surprising: during its gestation, Wainwright became a mother herself and lost her own (the folk legend Kate McGarrigle).
Venturing further into radio-friendly pop-rock than ever before, her fourth album showcases a strong voice which (unlike brother Rufus) actually hits the notes. A tip of the hat, furthermore, is due for the opening couplet: "I really like the make-up sex/ It's the only kind I ever get..."
