Veteran bit-part shouter-androgyne (Labelle, Bowie, etc) in a guitar-spiked funk-rock throwdown on Ani Difranco's label… You can see already the direction it's pointing in.

Then you read the song titles: "Tea Party", "The Ballad of Rush Limbaugh", "Oil on the Water", "Strange Fruit" (that one). It's spiky protest music from the gut. And if Nona is by no means Aretha (nor Jimi), there's no arguing with the passion of her stance, nor the righteousness of her passion.
