Back then, the acronym R&B included within its scope white New Jersey boys playing the jukebox hits of black 1950s/1960s America, plus songs by their best mate (B Springsteen).

The first, 1976 album comes coupled with its equally enchanting, if slightly foggier, follow-up, two exercises in righteous inspiration. Horns, voices, cooking rhythm: a chorale of soulful boardwalk energy. Not original but much, much better than it was ever given credit for.
