Album: The Superimposers, Harpsichord Treacle, (WonderfulSound)
A couple of years ago, the West Country duo The Superimposers released a series of singles, which used modern sampling and recording methods to emulate the late-Sixties Los Angeles psychedelic harmony-pop tradition of The Association, Brian Wilson and Jimmy Webb.

The follow-up Missing hinted at further-out possibilities by covering Sun Ra's "I'll Wait For You", but for this they've reverted to their earlier mode, with diminishing returns. The opener "Anymore" opens with Beach Boyish scat harmonies before a string-loop groove adorned with woodwind and glockenspiel takes over.
It's all downhill from there, with "The Northern Song" resembling ELO in a pronounced MOR mood, and most tracks smothered in string samples. The Superimposers fail to impose a more gripping character on this musical Valium, whose limp manner extends to the drab lyrical fare.
