The French word "profane" should have been translated as "secular".

These songs include shepherds' calls, laments, satirical comments on mothers-in-law and current mores, but they always have a sweet decorousness. Corsican a cappella polyphony is wonderful, and it's heartening to know that this island's ancient chants are now being revived on such a scale that Corsican football supporters, who traditionally sang in Italian, now chant their own Corsican songs.
