South Korean singer BoA will make her Hollywood acting debut early next year after taking East Asia by storm, her agency said Tuesday.

The 23-year-old, whose real name is Kwon Bo-A, will star in a movie about dancers in New York City, said SM Entertainment.

Duane Adler, a screenwriter for "Save the Last Dance" and "Step Up", is expected to direct the new movie, said Kim Eun-A, PR manager for the agency.

She said Robert Cort, producer of "Jumanji" and "Runaway Bride", would produce the new movie whose title has not yet been decided.

BoA (an acronym for Beat of Angel) twice released million-selling albums in Japan, a rarity for foreign artists there, and had six consecutive number one albums in the country's Oricon pop charts.

The singer, who made her debut in 2000, has sold more than 20 million records at home and abroad and last year released her first English-language album in the United States.

She has also recorded an album in Mandarin.

In 2009 US entertainment magazine Hollywood Reporter chose her as one of the "Next Generation Asia 20", a list of 20 promising young showbiz professionals. It described her as "the next global pop wonder to watch".
