Top selling Christmas music this holiday season
Friday 24 December 2010
With several big releases this holiday season including Taylor Swift's 'Speak Now' and Kanye West's 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy', these new albums are vying with holiday releases on Amazon's bestselling music charts.
Some of the CDs in the top 20 are new Christmas collections such as Annie Lennox's A Christmas Cornucopia and Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album from the cast of the television show.
A trend continues for "classical crossover," the pop-operatic singing style of No. 1 on Amazon's music charts, Susan Boyle's The Gift, the singer from Britain's Got Talent and at No. 2 O Holy Night by 10-year-old America's Got Talent sensation, Jackie Evancho.
On Amazon's vocal chart, the top ten are sprinkled with evergreen albums, including Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve and Other Stories, The Priests' Noel, The Canadian Tenors' The Perfect Gift and Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas.
With the new year, these collections will fade from the charts, but while everyone is in the seasonal spirit, here are some popular Christmas selections selling on Amazon around the world:
With a Caribbean island flavor, Coral Reefer Christmas by steel drum player Robert Greenidge features guest Jimmy Buffet at the top of the list and with a disco beat, there's Christmas with Boney M, 2007's release.
Celtic sounds remain popular with this year's Celtic Thunder Christmas, Orla Fallon's Celtic Christmas and 1991's The Bells of Dublin from The Chieftan's with guests including Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull, Rickie Lee Jones and others to perform Christmas folk tunes and standards.
Traditional chorals include Classic Christmas Carols by the King's College Choir, the Vienna Boys' Choir Christmas Favorites, and Christmas Music from Medieval Hungary.
On iTune's, the popular downloaded holiday songs include: Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," "Christmas Lights" by Coldplay, "Shake Up Christmas" by Train, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," Merry X-Mas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon, the 1957 classic "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobbie Helms, as well as Glee and Trans-Siberian Orchestra favorites.
