IT HAS recently been reported that George Clooney (right) will be paid an astronomical sum to return for a one-off episode of ER. He hardly needs the money, as his film career has taken off since Out of Sight, his sizzling thriller opposite Jennifer Lopez. In One Fine Day (6pm Sky Premier), a likeable, romantic comedy from Michael Hoffman, he and Michelle Pfeiffer play busy Manhattan divorcees, whose paths cross during a series of mix-ups involving their children. Their initial hostility soon develops into something more amorous.

Jeremy Irons has given many fine performances over the years. Few, however, have matched his dignified display as the altruistic priest in The Mission (6pm FilmFour), Roland Joffe's stunningly photographed picture of the clash between the native Indians and the Spanish invaders in 18th-century South America.
