One of the best songwriters and most outstanding musical chameleons of the last quarter-century winds up his current tour with an evening on the South Bank. Accompanied only by his keyboard player - and original member of the Attractions - Steve Nieve, previous shows over the past few weeks have seen Costello (right) using a fluid setlist, playing songs that he feels best suit the audience and occasion. There's certainly a lot of numbers and styles to choose from, as his recent 42-track Very Best Of double album confirms, covering as it does a range of songs, from the spiky pop punk of the early days, through the excellent R'n'B-influenced "Get Happy" album, to country songs and heartfelt ballads.
