All roads lead to London this New Year's Eve, but when forced to recommend one event, I'd suggest travelling a little further south, to Bournemouth. Slinky gigs are always slickly designed and crammed full of stylish energetic clubbers who keep the dancefloor fluid, cheering every crescendo until chucking-out time. This year Graham Gold, Guy Ornadel, Luke Neville and Slacker feature in the Grand Auditorium while Tim Lyall, Si Sanchez and Bob Povey feature in the Groove Garden, with Carl Cox's garagey vibe via an ISDN link from Hawaii. He's obviously got the best end of the deal, but with four huge video monitors, you'll have a better view than if he were there in person. Great value for money and, with 2,000 revellers, will be a classic occasion that should avoid so many of the dire pitfalls of other over-sized, one-off gigs.

570 Christchurch Rd, Bournemouth (01202 399 922) Fri 31 Dec, 8pm-12noon, pounds 65
