THE 1993 EDITION of Chambers Dictionary defines kitsch as "art, literature, fashion, etc dismissed as being of merely popular taste or appeal, vulgar, sentimental or sometimes pretentious". But that's surely out of date: these days, popular taste has been put on a pedestal (even if it's an ironic one). Over this week Postscript (9pm R3) tries to catch some of the many modern faces of kitsch. Dubravka Ugresic tonight talks about the varieties she has encountered - she recalls how, during the Serb-Croat war, she watched Dynasty (right) with air-raid warnings flashing across the screen.

The Lunchtime Concert (1pm R3) features members of the Nash Ensemble in Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time.
