Tudor Anthems: Clare College Choir/Timothy Brown (Gamut, CD). Weelkes, Gibbons, Tye and (not to be forgotten) Mudd: the music of Reformation England sung by one of Cambridge's best mixed-voice choirs. MW

Leontyne Price Sings Samuel Barber (RCA Victor, CD). Classic reissues, including Knoxville under Thomas Schippers and the Hermit Songs with Barber himself at the piano. MW

Ennio Morricone: La Scorta. To hear this sombre masterpiece, you'll have to buy a ticket to Ricky Tognazzi's fine movie. RW

Chaka Demus and Pliers: I Wanna Be Your Man (Mango, single). A lubricious soundtrack to summer. Phil Johnson

Nick Drake: Way to Blue (Island, CD/tape). Exquisite melancholia: like having the source of a stream in your room. Ben Thompson
