Next time you're idling in New Oxford Street, you may well see people sitting at a bus-stop enjoying a black-and-white film. It will be projected from inside a building under the Centrepoint Tower which has a translucent wall. This is Mean Fiddler's latest enterprise: a lean, stylish bar called Point 101.

Formerly a NatWest bank, the building has a solid, 1960s look of concrete and glass. The interior was designed by the people responsible for the Cube Bar and Subterania, so the style is minimalist, all stark lines and stripped wood.

The floor-to-ceiling glass of the downstairs area makes it feel a little like a goldfish bowl; upstairs, with diner booths and sushi, is better for lounging.

Set at the crossroads between Soho, Shaftesbury Avenue and Bloomsbury, Point 101 attracts a mixed crowd of people wanting to drink late (till 1am or 2am) without paying a cover charge. There's a DJ every night, and the well-priced drinks range from coffee to cocktails.
