WES CRAVEN has an impeccable record when it comes to horror phenomena. Who else could have delivered the long-running success of Freddy Krueger? He hit the jackpot again with Scream (11.45pm Sky Moviemax), a knowing horror flick. In this self-mocking script from Kevin Williamson, Neve Campbell (right) plays Sidney Prescott, a teenager being pursued by a masked serial killer. Skeet Ulrich, Drew Barrymore, David Arquette and Courteney Cox provide quality support. Full of in-jokes at the expense of the genre, Scream manages to sprinkle some laughs in among the moments where you want to cover your eyes.

Shakespeare (9pm History Channel), the subject of tonight's profile, was one of the most talked- about figures at this year's Oscars. Not bad for a man who's been dead for centuries. His literary influence is examined this evening.
