Flower of his secret: the British film-maker Ken Russell ('Women in Love', 'The Rainbow') has turned novelist. Born in 1927, he started working in films in the 1950s. Now he has swapped celluloid for typewriter to write his first book, 'Mike and Gaby's Space Gospel', which charts the growth of a couple of robots' strange invention: mankind (Little, Brown; pounds 15.99)
